Troubleshooting
Common problems
| Can't connect | Another program probably has the meter; it talks to one at a time. Close any other collector, Unihedron Device Manager, or a second copy of this application. |
|---|---|
| Every reading is 0.00 | The meter is saturated: it is daylight, or a light is shining on it. The meter is working correctly. |
| Readings stop changing | Look for STALE in the readings. At a dark site, make Sample every longer so the sensor has time to finish each reading. |
| Statistics say "unavailable" | Either no observing site is set, or there is no astronomical night at your latitude on that date. The message says which. |
| Sampling won't start | If the daily reading log is turned on, it needs a folder. See the daily reading log. |
| Something looks the wrong size | shows your display scaling. Please include it when you report the problem. |
If an error window appears
If the application hits an unexpected error, it saves a report called
crash-<date and time>.log next to your history database and shows it, with a
Copy details button. Please send it to
support@bartonlakeinstruments.com. The
report is only saved on your computer; nothing is sent automatically.
For connection problems, shows every command sent to the meter and every reply.
What the application never does
- It never changes the meter’s calibration, firmware or settings.
- It never records a missing reading as zero.
- It never invents readings to fill a gap, and never draws a line across one.
- It never guesses cloud, transparency or seeing from sky brightness alone.
- It always saves a reading before trying to upload anything.
