Checking for updates
looks up the latest version on bartonlakeinstruments.com. If there is a newer one, it offers to open its download page in your browser. Nothing is downloaded or installed for you.

What the application tells Barton Lake Instruments
To count how many copies are in use and which versions they run, the application sends a short check-in at two moments only: once, the first time it starts on a computer, and each time you check for updates. A check-in contains:
- the application’s name and version;
- the version of Windows;
- a random ID made on your computer the first time, so repeat checks from one installation can be told apart from separate installations. It isn't linked to you or your meter;
- when you check for updates, the meter model (SQM-LE or SQM-LU), if one is set up.
A check-in never includes your readings, your observing site or its location, your observatory’s name, the meter’s network address or serial number, or anything from your upload settings. If a check-in fails, nothing happens: the application carries on as normal.
